21. Sharing is caring
I will share this website link directly with at least one other person and encourage that person to make “earth day – every day” commitments. I will also post this link on my social media platforms.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Imagine if we all encouraged 1, 2, 5, 10 (or even more) people to make and implement “Earth Day – Every Day” commitments, while simultaneously reducing our own carbon and pollution footprint. This is the environmental multiplier effect. We would be amplifying our positive contributions to the environment, and helping others.
Every person matters, and taking positive action is so empowering. Studies show that we are most influenced by families and friends. Through sharing “Earth Day – Every Day,” we can be important influencers with friends, family, colleagues and followers in helping to reduce carbon and pollution emissions for the benefit of current and future generations and our life-giving planet.
TAKING ACTION!
Sharing is caring. Pass it on by doing at least two of the following:
Identify one or more close friends and/or family members and send them a personal text, post, message or email… or talk to them in person. Consider modifying this invitation language to make it most meaningful to the person you are writing: “Please join me! Together, let’s fight climate change by taking win-win personal actions to reduce our carbon footprints. I just signed up with ‘Earth Day – Every Day,’ and will be implementing _ new, achievable commitments in my daily life. Check it out: (ADD LINK). I hope you will sign up too, choose at least three commitments, and then share our pledges to inspire others.
Spread the word by posting the Earth Day Every Day link on your social media platforms. Consider saying something like: “Join me! Together, let’s fight climate change by taking win-win personal actions to reduce our carbon footprints. I just signed up with ‘Earth Day – Every Day’ and will be implementing _ new commitments in my daily life. Check it out: (ADD LINK). I hope you will sign-up too.”
Have fun organizing an “Earth Day – Every Day” group to share ideas, milestones and strategies.
ADDITIONAL MOTIVATIONAL THOUGHTS
We now know that “climate conversations with friends and family enter people into a pro-climate social feedback loop.” Also, as the authors of an important study note: “Climate change is an urgent global issue, with demands for personal, collective, and governmental action” (emphasis added).
As UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center points out: “When you lead by example, your actions will serve as a source of goal contagion for other people.”
Let’s help achieve collective action on climate change by being a source of reducing-our-carbon-footprint “goal contagion!”
